An integral component of the Outdoor Adventure Program is you, the volunteer member. Without your commitment, energy, knowledge and motivation, the Outdoor Adventure Program cannot exist. As a staff of OAP, you help make it all happen. Your involvement in the program, from leading trips & clinics to assisting with the rental center and climbing wall is important and defines the program.
Volunteering with Travis Outdoor Recreation and the Outdoor Adventure Program is much more than a way to obtain volunteer hours. Working here provides the chance to meet new and exciting friends and to share the love of the outdoors as well as learn and teach a variety of adventure activities. We encourage all volunteers to take advantage of the skills and knowledge desired. These projects allow you the means to realize your own goals while helping the program.
We are seeking dedicated and knowledgeable volunteers in all outdoor programs, but are in need of drivers for next season's Ski Shuttle and monthly Napa Wine Tours, as well as many others.
Volunteer applications available upon request, call 424-0499.
Wounded Warrior Kayak Program (AKA: Team River Runner):
Team River Runner is a non-profit organization with local chapters offered throughout the nation. Travis Outdoor Recreation maintains the local chapter, offering free kayak classed to those who qualify every other Tuesday at or bi-weekly kayak roll class. The goal of this program is to promote recovery from an injury caused by Military service, and to foster a sense of empowerment through paddle sports. Injuries can be physical or emotional as we will be able to adapt the program to meet the needs of the individual. Come get a workout, and have a good time while learning that life still can go on after an injury, and see what you can accomplish while learning a new skill.
Outdoor Recreation offers seasonal internships to students pursuing a degree in the Recreation field. With 11 different Activates falling under Outdoor Recreation, including Adventure Programs, ITT, Rentals, Paintball, and much more the student intern will have the ability to explore and learn all aspects of how to run a recreation program. Students need to adhere to their Universities requirements as well as serve a minimum of 12 weeks as a staff member at ODR. Housing is available and incentives include professional training and certifications, as well as networking throughout the Military Recreation field.
